A Custom Display Stand for Velvet Burn's Pre-Roll Range

Client
Seaweed Social Club
Retail display is one of those things that looks simple until you try to source it. Off-the-shelf stands either don't fit the product or don't carry the brand. Custom fabrication through traditional means — machining, injection molding, laser-cut acrylic — is slow and expensive when you're a growing brand that needs something now. That's the gap 3D printing fills cleanly, and it's exactly what brought Seaweed Social Club to us.
Who is involved
Seaweed Social Club is a Cape Town cannabis lifestyle brand — high tides, higher vibes. The display stands they ordered are for Velvet Burn, whose pre-roll range comes in branded packaging that's already sharp — the VB mark, cannabis leaf flanking it on both sides, consistent black and white throughout. The product looks the part. The display stand needed to match.
The brief
A countertop display stand, purpose-built to hold Velvet Burn's pre-roll cones upright at an angle — visible, accessible, and stacked deep enough to show a full product spread at once. It needed to carry Velvet Burn's branding on the back panel and fit naturally into a retail environment where the aesthetic is already dialled in.
There's no standard off-the-shelf product that does this for a pre-roll. The geometry has to be right: each slot angled to hold the tube at just the right tilt so the product sits securely but can be lifted out cleanly. Too steep and they roll out; too shallow and they're hard to grab. That kind of tuning is exactly where a 3D-printed solution earns its keep — you iterate the geometry, reprint, check the fit, and lock it in.

The print
We ran the stand in black PETG — the right call for a retail piece. PETG holds its shape under the kind of ambient heat you get in a shop, resists the occasional knock or scrape better than PLA, and takes a finish that looks intentional rather than prototype-ish. The black matches Velvet Burn's packaging exactly, so the stand disappears into the product rather than competing with it.
The back panel carries the VB logo and cannabis leaf marks raised from the surface — the same branding language as their packaging, carried through to the display. Four columns of slots, tiered front to back, hold the full product range in one footprint. Everything a customer needs to see is visible at a glance.

Why print beats buying
The alternative here isn't another supplier — it's nothing. There's no catalog product designed to hold pre-roll cones at this angle, in this quantity, with a specific brand printed on the back. 3D printing isn't always cheaper than a mass-produced item, but when the mass-produced item doesn't exist, the comparison is beside the point.
For brands at this stage — product is sorted, the look is sorted, you need the retail infrastructure to match — a printed stand is fast, accurate, and can be iterated cheaply if the slot angle needs tweaking or a second variant is needed for a different venue.
